BOULDERS ON MY PATH Irina Rivkin 1999

My feet would be my anchor
my thoughts would be my friend
my road would take me further
with every thoughtful bend

When I walk I hear where to listen
when I walk I feel how to see
with each step I fly without knowing
like bare roots and wild birds touch what's free

But these moments of freedom
could be frozen in their tracks
Cause the smallest pebble of doubt
could feel like a boulder on my back

that's when the ground can feel so far
and everything I do seems wrong
it's at these moments I feel so damn weak
at the invisible edge of strong

Sticks and stones and needless fears
let them roll off my back
like a river that knows where it's going
let me flow through the cracks
flow smooth past the jagged edges
of my own boulders that block my path

My feet still be my anchor
my thoughts still be my friend
my road still lead me further
with every thoughtful bend
with every thoughtful bend
